YOUNG AND ELDERLY WOMEN

Within the Fédération des femmes du Québec (FFQ), we cherish the diversity of voices. We firmly believe in the importance of a wide range of experiences and perspectives, regardless of age. We hold that women from all generations bring valuable and unique contributions that strengthen our feminist movements.

Intergenerational Vision

We have put this commitment into practice through several initiatives. In 1999, we began reflecting on the experiences of newly retired women and formed the Comité des 50.

This committee was revived in 2008 to focus on improving the living conditions and economic security of elderly women. We also participated, alongside the Association des retraitées et retraités de l’enseignement du Québec  (AREQ), in the 2007 public consultation on the living conditions of seniors, advocating a feminist perspective.

Regarding youth, activists from the FFQ’s Youth Committee have been very active over the years. They were indeed the undisputed leaders of the organizing committee for Toujours RebELLEs !, a gathering of young feminists that brought together over 500 young participants from across Canada in Montreal. This event evolved into a pan-Canadian feminist movement in 2008.

In 2022, the FFQ initiated the Women Talking Stories, which aims to document the memory of elderly feminists to ensure it is never forgotten.
