INDIGENOUS WOMEN AND COLONIALISM

This timeline examines the positions of the Fédération des Femmes du Québec (FFQ) regarding Indigenous women and colonialism. It highlights struggles for justice and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, as well as specific issues facing Indigenous women.

2023

THAT FFQ advocate for the Quebec government to take immediate measures to eliminate systems and structures that marginalize Indigenous women and their peoples and perpetuate colonialism.

2017

THAT FFQ continue to develop a joint policy with Quebec Native Women and its ongoing alliance with them.

2015

THAT FFQ continue its commitment and nurture its alliance with Indigenous women through its agreement with Quebec Native Women, and therefore, that FFQ seek to eliminate racist and colonial attitudes, practices, and positions;

THAT FFQ adopt a specific policy regarding relations with Indigenous women, including:

the text of the Protocole de solidarité mutuelle FFQ-FAQ;
proposals adopted in section 3 of the ‘’États généraux de l’action et de l’analyse féministe’’, entitled ‘’Autodétermination et solidarité avec les femmes autochtones’’.

2006

THAT FFQ support the struggle led by Quebec Native Women to counter the discriminatory nature of Bill C-31 towards Indigenous women and their children, by informing and mobilizing its members on this issue.

2004

THAT FFQ explores with Quebec Native Women (QNW) ways to implement the mutual solidarity protocol.

2003

THAT FFQ develop a particular mode of equal collaboration with Indigenous Quebec Native Women (QNW) and elaborate with them a protocol and practices of mutual solidarity.
