With a bachelor’s degree and a master’s in social work, Mélanie Ederer has worked in a wide variety of settings, including as a research coordinator in domestic and family violence, youth worker, collective action project manager and crisis counselor.

Through all these experiences, she continues to be involved in feminist struggles and to denounce oppression. In 2020, Mélanie joined the FFQ Board of Directors as a representative of individual members. She then ran for the presidency of the FFQ and was elected by the members at the General Assembly in September 2021. She thus becomes the youngest president in the FFQ’s history.

Currently President of the Fédération des femmes du Québec and a PhD candidate in Population Studies at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique, Mélanie Ederer seeks to combine theory and practice in the fight against social injustice.

A facilitator with a passion for collective action, she fights against obstacles to citizen participation and seeks to promote accessibility to the various places of power. Among her interests, she is involved in the fight against gender-based violence, is interested in the practices of community organizations and seeks to promote the use of emotions as a lever for social change.
