GLOBALIZATION AND INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY

FFQ boasts a long history of international engagement, working to foster and strengthen solidarity ties for women’s rights and gender equality. Analyzing globalization is crucial for building inclusive and robust movements.

World March of Women: Demonstrating our Global Feminist Commitment

Our commitment to global feminist analysis is closely intertwined with our initiation of the World March of Women in 2000. This worldwide movement unites women from diverse backgrounds around shared goals, reinforcing our solidarity and dedication to women’s rights.

Supporting our Sisters Around the World

On numerous occasions, we have taken actions to support and show solidarity internationally. We have stood in solidarity with Indian, Palestinian, Iranian, Afghan, Mexican, Haitian, and Honduran women in their struggles for rights and democracy. We have opposed actions by Israel and the United States that violate international law. We have also supported women victimized by religious fundamentalism.

2024

THAT FFQ officially support the Women, Life, Freedom (WLF) movement in Iran;

THAT FFQ participate in international solidarity activities with the WLF movement;

THAT FFQ amplify the voices of Iranian women in its activities, particularly in the fight against state violence;

THAT FFQ contribute to disseminating information (in Quebec) on the demands of all Iranian women (and on gender apartheid in Iran);

THAT FFQ support and advocate for the freedom of all Iranian women and women of Iranian origin in Quebec, notably by denouncing gender apartheid and misogynistic laws in Iran.

2023

THAT FFQ declare its solidarity and support for Indian women and their communities, particularly those belonging to minority groups (Muslims, Dalits, Aboriginals, Christians, Hijras, etc.) and urge the Quebec (which has its own trade office in India) and Canadian governments to insist on the Government of India’s adherence to international human rights protocols and the principles of secular democracy enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

2023

THAT FFQ urge its members, Quebecers, and Canadians to demand an end to arms sales to Israel and trade with its illegal settlements until Israel complies with international law, and to express solidarity with Palestinian women and people.

2023

THAT FFQ express solidarity and support for the women of Iran and demand justice for the murder of Mahsa Amini and the numerous subsequent murders.

2021

THAT FFQ reaffirm its solidarity with Palestinian women;

THAT FFQ lobby the Canadian government to impose tangible sanctions against Israel;

THAT FFQ explore concrete measures to strengthen ties with Palestinian women and the Palestinian people (e.g., reciprocal delegations).

2021

THAT FFQ stand in solidarity with the women and people of Afghanistan, oppose all state interventions limiting the rights of women and marginalized communities, advocate for Quebec and Canada to welcome Afghan nationals, and raise awareness about the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, ensuring their voices are central in telling their own stories and envisioning solutions.

2020

THAT FFQ strongly oppose the Trump/Netanyahu annexation plan and call on Canada to impose real economic sanctions (including the cancellation of all trade agreements) and political sanctions (including the withdrawal of the Canadian Ambassador to Israel) until Israel respects international law.

2019

THAT FFQ support Iranian, Saudi, and other women affected by religious fundamentalism.

2010

THAT FFQ express support for the protest during the visit of the Israeli Prime Minister to Canada, and join various organizations in demanding :

  • Israel’s full compliance with international law and Palestinian rights;
  • Harper government’s respect for the rights and freedoms of opinion and expression of all citizens and groups defending Palestinian rights;
  • proactive respect from this government for Canada’s official positions against occupation and colonization.

2010

THAT FFQ take a stand to :

  • respond positively to the appeal of Palestinian civil society;
  • officially support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign until Israel complies with international law and respects Palestinian rights;
  • raise awareness about the specific negative impact of Israeli apartheid on Palestinian women;
  • contribute to the development of a feminist perspective within this campaign by (1) highlighting issues specific to women (oppression and reinforcement of patriarchy; occupation and violence against women; militarization of society; fundamentalisms and women’s rights); (2) the particular involvement of so-called feminine products such as “beauty products” manufactured in the colonies; (3) ensuring the participation of women on an equal footing with men in defining and organizing the campaign;
  • highlight the resistance of Jewish and Israeli women to Israeli apartheid.

2010

THAT FFQ reiterate the importance of the contribution of Haitian feminists at home and in the diaspora to the development of global feminist solidarity.

This position was adopted in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti.

2009

THAT FFQ support the struggle of women in Honduras who protest daily in the streets for democracy.

2007

THAT FFQ’s Women and Globalization Committee continue to explore issues of militarization, war, and peace for women, aiming to raise awareness and take action among FFQ members.

THAT FFQ’s Women and Globalization Committee continue to participate as a partner in the third research project conducted by Dorval Brunel and Francine Descarries on the impacts of free trade and liberalization policies of governments and companies on the living conditions of women in Quebec.

2004 & 2006

THAT FFQ continue its commitment to raising public awareness and alerting political authorities to feminicide, particularly experienced by women in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and Aboriginal women in Canada.

2001

THAT FFQ collaborate with pan-Canadian women’s organizations to strengthen ties and secure gains from the federal government, and question its international role;

THAT FFQ delve deeper into current issues – all forms of violence, poverty, and discrimination – through reflection, popular education, alliances, and strategic action; continue to train its members on various aspects of globalization. In the wake of the World March of Women, FFQ, alongside its members and allies, aims to continue advancing collectively adopted demands and fighting to achieve them;

THAT FFQ, whenever possible and relevant, develop a feminist analysis of its issues at provincial, national, continental, and international levels.
