WOMEN’S HEALTH AND SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

Since 1974, FFQ has been advocating for the right to abortion and voluntary maternity for all women in Quebec. We were the first major women’s association in Quebec to argue that women should have sole discretion in deciding whether or not to continue a pregnancy.

Over the years, we’ve brought attention to critical issues concerning women’s health and rights. From instances of medical violence to the vulnerability of patients in medical settings, from advancements in reproductive technologies to ensuring adequate maternity leave – no topic has been deemed too intricate or sensitive.

Our fight persists: standing up for women and pregnant individuals

Today, our battle continues. We champion genuine reproductive rights, alongside advocating for access to healthcare for women and pregnant individuals, irrespective of their migratory status. We strive for universal access to abortion across Quebec and combat menstrual precariousness.

And we’re not navigating this journey alone! In partnership with the Fédération du Québec pour le planning des naissances and the Comité de veille en avortement, we remain vigilant in the face of threats to abortion rights and anti-choice movements.

THAT FFQ address the issue of the commercialization of pre-packaged human milk and the remuneration of women and lactating individuals for their milk;

THAT FFQ educate itself on the subject of breastfeeding-friendly environments, notably through a popular education approach;

THAT FFQ remain vigilant regarding the developments surrounding breastfeeding issues and collaborate with relevant organizations, particularly by supporting them in mobilization efforts.

2023

THAT FFQ reiterate its membership in the Coalition pour la pratique sage-femme (CPPSF), endorsing future actions and mobilizations in support of equitable access to midwifery services for all, with a focus on interpersonal and inter-regional equity;

THAT FFQ support mobilization efforts in so-called remote regions for the establishment and funding of out-of-hospital birthing facilities within their communities;

THAT FFQ endorse the CPPSF in its endeavors to promote this feminist profession, advocate for pay equity for midwives, safeguard their professional autonomy, and highlight their unique role within the Quebec healthcare network, including their model of continuous care tailored to individuals and their exclusive provision of birthing options outside hospital settings.

THAT FFQ support organizations defending the rights and well-being of women and pregnant individuals;

THAT FFQ lobby for an immediate increase in government funding for organizations supporting women and pregnant individuals, including those addressing food security;

THAT access to services be granted to all women and pregnant individuals, regardless of their migratory status.

THAT FFQ’s Feminism, Body, and Sexuality Committee address menstrual precariousness;

THAT FFQ host a prominent event during or after the election campaign;

THAT FFQ advocate for Quebec to establish its own Menstrual Health Day;

THAT FFQ call for universal free access to menstrual products, particularly targeting homeless individuals, students, and those receiving income security benefits;

THAT FFQ participate in the action addressing menstrual precariousness organized by the Regroupement des groupes de femmes de la région de la Capitale-Nationale on May 28, 2023, in Quebec City.
